Arthur's brother Henry then married the widowed Catharine of Aragon,
and later became king as Henry VIII.
It was to divorce Catharine and marry Anne Boleyn that Henry VIII
broke with the pope, declared England an Empire, and himself the
head of the Church of England.
This made Catharine's daughter Mary a bastard,
which probably didn't help her disposition much.
