The Society Settled Upon Midway and Newport in Georgia was first incorporated 28 August 1754. Despite some unpleasantnesses such as in 1778 when the British invaded and most of the inhabitants returned to South Carolina for several years, the War of 1812, and the dissolution of Midway Church and Society in 1867, it reformed in 1887 and has apparently been meeting annually ever since. I've never been to one of those meetings, but I hear that they draw a couple of hundred people. Others on this list have gone to them; perhaps they can elaborate. John S.
